Tempura Prawn Hand Rolls

Servings: 4

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Sushi Rice
  • 1.5 cup Water
  • 16 pieces Prawns
  • 200 grams Tempura Batter
  • 4 pieces Norwegian Sheets
  • enough for deep frying Vegetable Oil
  • to taste Soy Sauce
  • to taste Pickled Ginger
  • to taste Wasabi

Instructions:

  1. Step 1: Rinse the sushi rice in cold water until the water runs clear. Then, place in a pot with 1.5 cup of water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat, cover, and let it simmer for 20 minutes, or until the water is absorbed. Let it cool down.
  2. Step 2: Dip the prawns in tempura batter, ensuring they are fully coated. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer, once hot, carefully place the battered prawns into the oil and fry until golden brown. Remove and place on paper towel to drain excess oil.
  3. Step 3: Place a Norwegian sheet on a sushi mat, spread a layer of cool sushi rice on top, leaving about an inch at the top of the sheet free of rice. Lay some fried prawns along the middle of the rice.
  4. Step 4: Roll the sushi mat, applying some pressure to make a snug, firm roll. Once the sushi roll is fully formed, wrap it in the mat and apply some pressure again to bind everything together. Repeat this process with the rest of the ingredients.
  5. Step 5: Slice each sushi roll into bite-sized pieces and serve with soy sauce, pickled ginger, and wasabi. Enjoy your Japanese comfort food snack!
