Spicy Kerala-Style Shrimp

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound shrimp
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 2 sprigs curry leaves
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • 1 medium sized onion
  • 2 pieces green chili

Instructions:

  1. Clean and de-vein the shrimp.
  2. Mix the turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt. Marinate the cleaned shrimp with this mixture and set aside for 15 minutes.
  3. Heat coconut oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, fennel seeds, and curry leaves. Once they splutter, add finely chopped garlic.
  4. Sauté until garlic turns gold. Add thinly sliced onions and green chilis. Sauté until it turns slightly brown.
  5. Add the marinated shrimp and toss on high heat for 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Lower the heat, cover the pan and cook for another 5 minutes, or until the shrimps are cooked.
  7. Serve hot with rice or roti.
