Spicy Japanese Chicken Donburi

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups Japanese short grain rice
  • 2 pieces chicken breasts
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon mirin
  • 1 tablespoon sake
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 3 stalks green onions
  • 2 pieces garlic cloves
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds

Instructions:

  1. Cook the rice following the package instructions.
  2. In a bowl, mix the soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, red pepper flakes, ginger, minced garlic, and half of the chopped green onions.
  3. Cut the chicken into bite-sized pieces and marinate them in the sauce for 10-15 minutes.
  4. Heat a pan over medium heat. Add the chicken pieces, saving the marinade for later.
  5. Cook until the chicken is browned and cooked through, then add the remaining marinade to the pan.
  6. Allow the mixture to simmer until the sauce is thickened.
  7. Serve the chicken over the cooked rice, garnished with the remaining green onions and sesame seeds.
