
Spicy Japanese Beef Bowl (Gyudon)

Ingredients:
- 500 grams Thinly sliced beef
- 2 medium size Onions
- 3 tablespoons Cooking sake
- 3 tablespoons Mirin (sweet cooking rice wine)
- 3 tablespoons Soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons Sugar
- 2 cups Japanese short grain rice
- 1 tablespoon Red chili flakes
- 2 Green onions
- optional Pickled ginger (for serving)
Instructions:
- Cook the rice as per the instructions on the package.
- While the rice is cooking, peel the onions and slice thinly.
- In a large frying pan, add the onions, sliced beef, and the chili flakes.
- Sauce mixture: In a small bowl, combine the sake, mirin, soy sauce, and sugar. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved. Pour this sauce into the frying pan.
- Cook over medium heat until the onions are soft and the beef is cooked. This should take around 10-15 minutes.
- To serve, place a portion of rice in a bowl. Top with the cooked beef and onions, and garnish with green onions. Serve with pickled ginger on the side.
