Servings: 4
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 pound Boneless, skinless chicken thighs
- 1/4 cup Soy sauce
- 1/4 cup Sake
- 1/4 cup Mirin
- 2 tablespoons Sugar
- 6 whole Green onions
- 8 whole Wooden skewers
Instructions:
- Start by soaking the wooden skewers in water for about 15 minutes to prevent them from burning.
- While the skewers are soaking, cut the chicken thighs into 1-inch pieces and the green onions into 1-inch long pieces as well.
- To make the yakitori sauce, combine the soy sauce, sake, mirin, and sugar in a small pot. Simmer over medium heat until it slightly thickens, about 10 minutes.
- Thread a piece of chicken onto a skewer, followed by a piece of green onion, then another piece of chicken. Repeat until the skewer is filled, leaving a small space at the bottom for handling.
- Preheat your grill or broiler on high. Grill the skewers for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until the chicken is fully cooked and slightly charred.
- Brush the cooked skewers with the homemade yakitori sauce and continue to grill for another minute until the sauce is caramelized.
- Serve the chicken yakitori skewers while hot and enjoy your quick and easy Japanese snack.
