Quick & Easy Chicken Yakitori (Japanese Grilled Skewers)

Servings: 4

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound Boneless, skinless chicken thighs
  • 1/4 cup Soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup Sake
  • 1/4 cup Mirin
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 6 whole Green onions
  • 8 whole Wooden skewers

Instructions:

  1. Start by soaking the wooden skewers in water for about 15 minutes to prevent them from burning.
  2. While the skewers are soaking, cut the chicken thighs into 1-inch pieces and the green onions into 1-inch long pieces as well.
  3. To make the yakitori sauce, combine the soy sauce, sake, mirin, and sugar in a small pot. Simmer over medium heat until it slightly thickens, about 10 minutes.
  4. Thread a piece of chicken onto a skewer, followed by a piece of green onion, then another piece of chicken. Repeat until the skewer is filled, leaving a small space at the bottom for handling.
  5. Preheat your grill or broiler on high. Grill the skewers for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until the chicken is fully cooked and slightly charred.
  6. Brush the cooked skewers with the homemade yakitori sauce and continue to grill for another minute until the sauce is caramelized.
  7. Serve the chicken yakitori skewers while hot and enjoy your quick and easy Japanese snack.
