Japanese Tamagoyaki (Rolled Omelette)

Servings: 2

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 4 Eggs
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Mirin
  • to taste Salt
  • as needed Vegetable Oil

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, beat the eggs together with the sugar, soy sauce, mirin, and salt.
  2. Heat a non-stick frying pan over medium heat, then add a small amount of vegetable oil.
  3. Pour a thin layer of the egg mixture into the pan, letting it spread to the edges. When the egg starts to set, gently roll it towards one end of the pan.
  4. Push the rolled egg to the side of the pan, add a bit more oil, then pour in another thin layer of the egg mixture. When this starts to set, roll the existing rolled egg over it, creating a layered roll.
  5. Continue this process until all the egg mixture is used up. Remove the rolled omelette from the pan and let it cool for a few minutes before slicing it into bite-sized pieces.
  6. Enjoy your Tamagoyaki with steamed rice and pickles for a traditional Japanese dinner.
