Japanese Morning Beef Bowl (Gyudon)

Ingredients:

  • 500 grams Beef
  • 2 whole Onions
  • 2 cups Japanese rice
  • 2 cups Beef broth
  • 100 ml Sake
  • 100 ml Soy sauce
  • 50 grams Sugar
  • 3 stalks Green onions
  • as needed Pickled ginger
  • 4 whole Eggs

Instructions:

  1. Slice the beef and onions thinly.
  2. Rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  3. Cook the rice according to directions on the package.
  4. Saute the onions in a pan until transparent.
  5. Add the beef and cook until browned.
  6. In the same pan, add beef broth, sake, soy sauce, and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves.
  7. Cover and simmer until the liquid is reduced to half.
  8. In a different pan, fry each egg to your preference.
  9. To serve, put rice in a bowl, top with beef mixture, then the fried egg.
  10. Sprinkle with green onions and serve with pickled ginger on the side.
