Japanese Grilled Mackerel Breakfast

Ingredients:

  • 2 pieces Mackerel fillets
  • 1 tablespoon Soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Mirin
  • 1 cup White rice
  • 2 stalks Green onions
  • 1 tablespoon Pickled ginger
  • 2 cups Water

Instructions:

  1. Rinse the mackerel fillets and pat them dry. Prepare a marinade with soy sauce and mirin, and marinate the fillets for at least 10 minutes.
  2. While the mackerel is marinating, rinse the rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Add the rice and 2 cups of water to a saucepan, bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and allow it to simmer for 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat your grill or broiler. Grill the mackerel on each side for about 5 minutes or until the fish is thoroughly cooked and the skin is crisp.
  4. Serve the grilled mackerel with a scoop of white rice, some pickled ginger, and a garnish of chopped green onions.
