Japanese Beef Yakitori

Servings: 4

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 pound Beef, thinly sliced
  • 3 pieces Spring onions, chopped into 1-inch pieces
  • 1/3 cup Soy Sauce
  • 1/3 cup Mirin
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Sake
  • 2 cloves Garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger, freshly grated
  • 6-8 pieces Bamboo skewers

Instructions:

  1. Soak the bamboo skewers in water for at least 20 minutes to prevent burning.
  2. Combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, sugar, garlic, and ginger in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir the mixture until the sugar is completely dissolved, then allow to simmer until it becomes slightly thickened.
  3. Thread the beef slices and spring onions onto the bamboo skewers, alternating between both ingredients.
  4. Dip each skewer into the saucepan, coating the beef and spring onions evenly with the sauce.
  5. Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat. Cook the skewers for about 2-3 minutes on each side, turning occasionally and basting with additional sauce.
  6. Serve the yakitori hot with a sprinkling of sesame seeds, if desired.
