Healthy Japanese Grilled Fish (Yakizakana)

Servings: 2

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 filets Fish (Mackerel or Salmon)
  • 2 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Mirin
  • 1 tablespoon Sake
  • 2 slices Ginger

Instructions:

  1. Pat the fish dry and season both sides with salt. Let sit for 5 minutes.
  2. While waiting for the fish, combine soy sauce, mirin, sake, and ginger in a small bowl. This is your marinade.
  3. Place the fish in a zip-lock bag or a container, pour the marinade over the fish. Let it sit for at least 5 minutes. You can leave it to marinate for up to an hour in the refrigerator.
  4. Preheat the grill over high heat (alternatively, you can also use a pan or a broiler).
  5. Grill the fish skin side down for about 5 minutes or until the skin is no longer sticking to the grill. Flip over and grill the other side for 2-3 minutes.
  6. Pour the leftover marinade into a small saucepan and bring it to a boil. Simmer for 2 minutes and remove from heat. Strain the mixture.
  7. Serve the fish hot with the glaze drizzled on top. Goes well with steamed rice and vegetables.
