Servings: 4

Prep Time: 1 hr 30 min

Cook Time: 20 min

Total Time: 1 hr 50 min

Ingredients:

  • 1 packet Active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp Sugar
  • 2 cups Bread flour
  • 3/4 cup Warm water
  • 1 lb Lean ground pork
  • 4 stalks Scallions
  • 2 tbsp Low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Sesame oil
  • 2 tsp Fresh ginger
  • 2 Garlic cloves
  • 1/4 tsp Sea salt

Instructions:

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and 1 tbsp of sugar in warm water. Let it sit for 10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine the flour and yeast mixture. Knead it into a dough and let it rest for 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.
  3. While the dough is resting, prepare the filling. In a bowl, combine the ground pork with chopped scallions, soy sauce, sesame oil, grated ginger, minced garlic, and salt.
  4. Punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal parts. Flatten each portion and place some of the pork filling in the center, then gather the edges of the dough and pinch them together to seal.
  5. Place each bun on a small piece of parchment paper and steam for about 20 minutes or until the buns are puffed and the filling is cooked through.
  6. Serve the steamed pork buns warm. You can also store them in the refrigerator for up to a week, or freeze them for longer storage.
