French Onion Soup Gratinee

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 4 medium, finely chopped onions
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup prefer red wine wine
  • 4 cups beef broth
  • 1 sliced day-old baguette
  • 2 cups, shredded gruyere cheese
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Melt the butter in a large pot over medium heat, add the onions and cook until they are soft and caramelized.
  2. Add the garlic and cook for another minute, then stir in the flour until blended.
  3. Slowly pour in the wine, followed by beef broth and bring the soup to a boil.
  4. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot and let it simmer for about 15 minutes.
  5. Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and brush the baguette slices with olive oil on both sides.
  6. Bake the slices until they are golden brown, about 10 minutes.
  7. Spoon the soup into ovenproof bowls, top with toasted baguette and shredded cheese.
  8. Place the bowls on a baking sheet and bake in the oven until the cheese is bubbly and golden, about 15 minutes.
