Exotic Sichuan Beef Stew

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs Boneless beef chuck roast
  • 3 pieces Star anise
  • 1 tbsp Chinese five-spice powder
  • 1/2 cup Soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup Chinese rice wine
  • 3 tbsp Honey
  • 5 pieces Garlic cloves
  • 1 piece Red chili pepper
  • 2 inches Fresh ginger
  • 4 cups Water
  • 3 stalks Green onion
  • 1 stalk Coriander

Instructions:

  1. Cut the beef into large chunks and season with salt and pepper.
  2. In a large pot, sear the beef on all sides until browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, toast the star anise and Chinese five-spice until fragrant.
  4. Add the soy sauce, rice wine, honey, garlic, chili pepper, and ginger to the pot. Stir until combined.
  5. Return the beef to the pot and add water. Simmer for 1.5 hours.
  6. After simmering, add the chopped green onions and coriander. Cook for a further 30 minutes.
  7. Serve hot and enjoy the exotic flavors of Sichuan!
