Exotic Chinese Tea Eggs
Servings: 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour 10 minutes
Ingredients:
- 6 units Eggs
- 2 tbsp Black Tea Leaves
- 0.5 cup Soy Sauce
- 4 pieces Star Anise
- 1 stick Cinnamon Stick
- 2 tsp Peppercorns
- 2 tsp Sugar
Instructions:
- Carefully place the eggs in a medium pot and fill it with enough water to cover the eggs.
- Turn the heat to high and bring the water to a boil. Once the water comes to a boil, turn off the heat and leave the eggs in the hot water for about 10 minutes.
- Remove the eggs and cool them under running water. Once the eggs are cool to touch, lightly crack the shells using the back of a spoon. This will give the eggs a beautiful marbled effect once they've been steeped in tea.
- In the same pot, add the tea leaves, soy sauce, star anise, cinnamon stick, peppercorns, and sugar. Add the cracked eggs along with enough water to cover everything.
- Bring the pot to a low simmer and let it cook for about 1 hour.
- After an hour, turn off the heat and leave the eggs in the tea mixture to continue steeping. For a more intense flavor and color, leave them overnight.
- Before serving, peel the eggs and display the beautiful marbled patterns. These can be served cold or heated up, and make a perfect snack or part of a meal.
