Classic Italian Lasagna

Ingredients:

  • 12 pieces lasagna noodles
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 cups tomato sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil leaves
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 piece egg
  • 2 cups mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • to taste salt and pepper

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  2. In a large pot of boiling salted water, cook lasagna noodles until they are just done (al dente). Rinse the noodles with cold water and drain.
  3. In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until it's translucent. Add in the ground beef, breaking it up with a spatula. Cook until it's brown and no longer pink.
  4. Stir in the tomato sauce, minced garlic, and dried basil. Simmer this mixture for 15-20 minutes.
  5. In a mixing bowl, combine the ricotta cheese and egg. Season with salt and pepper.
  6. To assemble the lasagna, spread a spoonful of tomato sauce at the bottom of a baking dish. Lay 4 lasagna noodles across the sauce. Spread a portion of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, followed by a sprinkle of shredded mozzarella and grated parmesan. Repeat these layers till all ingredients are used, ending with a cheese layer on top.
  7. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 25-30 minutes. After this, remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the cheese on top is golden and bubbly.
  8. Remove the lasagna from the oven and let it set for 15 minutes before serving. Enjoy your classic Italian comfort food!
