Classic American Rice Pilaf

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 0.5 cup, finely chopped onion
  • 1 cup long grain white rice
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon, chopped fresh parsley

Instructions:

  1. 1. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. 2. Add onion, and cook until fragrant and translucent, for about 5 minutes.
  3. 3. Stir in the rice and cook until lightly toasted, for about 2 minutes.
  4. 4. Pour in the chicken broth, bay leaf, salt, and pepper and bring it to a boil.
  5. 5. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let it simmer until the rice is tender and all the liquid has been absorbed, for about 15-20 minutes.
  6. 6. Remove from heat, discard the bay leaf, fluff the rice with a fork, and garnish with the fresh parsley before serving.
