Classic American Pulled Pork Sandwich

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs boneless pork shoulder
  • to taste salt
  • to taste black pepper
  • 1.5 cups BBQ sauce
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 4 sandwich buns
  • 1 cup coleslaw

Instructions:

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
  2. Rub the pork shoulder with salt and black pepper.
  3. Place pork shoulder in a roasting pan, fat side up. Pour BBQ sauce over the pork, along with the chopped onion and minced garlic.
  4. Cover the pan with aluminum foil and bake for 3 hours, or until pork is tender enough to be easily shredded with a fork.
  5. Remove the pork from the oven and let rest for 15-20 minutes.
  6. While the pork is resting, toast the sandwich buns.
  7. Shred the pork, discarding any large pieces of fat. Toss the shredded pork in the cooking juices.
  8. To serve, fill each bun with shredded pork, drizzle with more BBQ sauce if desired, and top with coleslaw.
