Chinese Beef Congee for Breakfast

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 pound Beef Shanks
  • 1 cup Jasmine Rice
  • 6 cups Water
  • 1 inch Ginger
  • 2 stalks Green Onions
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon White Pepper

Instructions:

  1. Slice the beef into thin pieces and marinate it with a touch of salt and white pepper.
  2. Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  3. Combine the beef, rice, and water in a large pot. Bring the mixture to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let it simmer.
  4. Peel and slice the ginger into thin strips. Add them to the pot after it has been simmering for about 30 minutes.
  5. While the congee is cooking, chop the green onions.
  6. After the congee has been simmering for about an hour, it should have a creamy texture. If it’s too thick, you can add more water. Once it’s done, season it with the chopped green onions, salt, and white pepper to taste.
  7. Serve the congee hot. Enjoy your Chinese beef congee for breakfast!
