Beef Braciole: Italian Comfort Food for Midnight Cravings

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 pound beef flank steak or beef round
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup red wine
  • 14.5 oz canned crushed tomatoes

Instructions:

  1. Flatten the steak to a thickness of 1/4 inch. If using round beef, cut it into 2 pieces.
  2. Finely chop the garlic and parsley and mix them with the cheese, breadcrumbs, salt and pepper.
  3. Spread this mix over the beef, roll it tight and secure with string or toothpicks.
  4. In a skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add beef and brown on all sides.
  5. Pour in the red wine and allow it to simmer for a few minutes until slightly reduced.
  6. Add the crushed tomatoes and reduce to low heat. Cover and simmer for about an hour and a half, until beef is tender.
  7. Allow the braciole to rest for a few minutes before removing the string or toothpicks. Slice it into rounds to serve.
